TURF REFRESH CO. GUIDE

Silica Sand, WonderFill, or Zeolite for Dallas Pet Turf?

Published 2026-10-11

How turf use, drainage, odor concerns, and budget shape the right infill recommendation.

What infill does in an artificial lawn

Infill adds ballast, supports fibers, contributes to how the surface feels, and can influence drainage and odor management. More is not automatically better. The correct amount depends on the turf product, pile height, existing material, traffic, pets, and condition.

Silica sand

Silica sand is an economical option commonly used for ballast and fiber support. It may be appropriate for general-use lawns when the goal is to replenish material and help fibers stand more consistently.

WonderFill

WonderFill is a premium antimicrobial infill often considered for pet areas and odor-conscious households. A recommendation should account for the existing turf system and whether cleaning or drainage correction is also needed.

Zeolite

Zeolite is a mineral infill option that can help manage ammonia-related pet odor. It is not a substitute for waste removal, cleaning, or functional drainage, but it can be one part of a pet-turf maintenance plan.

How we choose among them

We inspect current infill depth and distribution, pet-use zones, drainage, matting, and the condition of fibers and seams. The goal is to add the material the lawn needs—not sell an infill upgrade automatically.
